John Russell (presumably her son); Mary Russell, Nancy Hill, James Robbins, Jonathan Nickols, Jeremiah Jordan, and Jethro Meltear.
This document shows that Sarah Russell was living in the vicinity of the Chowan Indian Reservation. Not only is headman James Robbins named, but so are neighbors like Hill and Meltear.
This is further evidence of the Russells’ origins in North Carolina. It has been difficult to reliably track their origin, or that of the Collinses. Almost all documents recorded show that Graham Collins, my ancestor, for instance, was born in Nansemond County, Va. However, in the 1870 Census, he states that he was born in North Carolina. Given that his parents were married in North Carolina, and his father appears on the 1800 census in North Carolina, I tend to believe this.
